Born on this day in 1906 – John Carradine, veteran actor  in many science fiction and horror movies including: Lights Out, Twilight Zone, The Unearthly, Lost in Space, The Incredible Petrified World, Half Human, The Cosmic Man, Invisible Invaders, Invasion of the Animal People, The Wizard of Mars, The Astro-Zombies, Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, Horror of the Blood Monsters, Blood of Ghastly Horror, Moonchild, Young Frankenstein, Stowaway to the Moon, Shock Waves, Young Frankenstein, Monster, The Ice Pirates, The Twilight Zone, Monster in the Closet, Evil Spawn.



The photograph below shows Carradine in the role of Cosmic Man in the film of the same name.





Born on this day in 1914  William S. Burroughs, author of The Naked Lunch, The Wild Boys and many other novels. Pioneer of the "cut-up" method.






Born on this day in 1940 – H.R. Giger, artist, probably best known for his creation of the alein in the film of the same name.




On this day in 1956 – Don Siegel’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers is released. The film was  based on Jack Finney’s novel The Body Snatchers originally serialized in Collier’s in 1954. It was to be remade in 1978, 1993, and 2007.





On this day in 1974 BBC Head of Serials Bill Slater receives a letter from out of work actor Tom Baker seeking employment. This proved to be good timing because just three days later on February 8th it is announced that Jon Pertwee would be quitting the role of Doctor at the end of the current series. On 15th February it is announced that Baker would be taking on the part.
